Michael Current

Michael Current was one of the founders of the Cybermind list as well as the moderator of several other lists. His presence on those lists was fragile but powerful, marked by his intensity and will to contribute not just by sharing his intellect but by sharing his emotions.

Michael died July 22nd 1994.

I have been in contact with a friend of Michael Current's regarding his Deleuze-Guattari archives. She lives in Des Moines and used to have coffee with MC every night. When I told her I didn't know what he looked like, she sent me the following.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

He was beautiful. I had asked my daughter to take photos of him one night while we sat at the coffeehouse. I do not remember if she did it or if she told me she had no film in her camera. I had planned to pay one of the regulars at the coffee house to take shots of him while he and I sat and talked. I never got a chance to get it arranged. I just did not plan to have him die....and not while I was in New Mexico.

M had enormous brown eyes, olive skin and brown hair. My son had been cutting M's hair and it had looked great this summer. I believe that the photos will never do him justice. He had fabulous bone structure.

He spoke slowly, always. Never raised his voice in my presence, although I am told he could cut with his vocabulary and tone of voice. His voice was soft and rich. He was, to all appearances, beautiful. However, he could no longer stand straight because of the scoliosis and he had so many ailments. His mother told me last night that he was even allergic to chlorine so that he could not enjoy swimming.

Subject: MC's autopsy results

Apparently, Michael Current's autopsy has just been completed. It has been found that Michael died of a heart attack; he had coronary artery disease. On the day of his death, he was suffering from more severe than usual back pain, which he attributed to his scoliosis.
